The Feylix Clinic is a private anal health and proctology clinic in Jesmond, Newcastle. Consultant colorectal surgeon Mr Jeremy Cundall assesses each patient and offers conservative care, pelvic floor support and selected laser or minor procedures under local anaesthetic.
Bleeding, pain, itching, leakage or a lump near your bottom can affect work, sleep, exercise and confidence. Many people wait because they feel embarrassed. You will be listened to without judgement, examined only with your consent, and given a clear plan.
Not every symptom needs an operation. The first job is to find the cause. We will explain self-care, medicines, pelvic floor physiotherapy, office treatment and surgery. If another test or a hospital procedure is safer, we will tell you and arrange the right next step.

Treatment Without A General Anaesthetic
Local anaesthetic numbs the treatment area while you stay awake. It avoids a general anaesthetic and an overnight hospital stay for many suitable procedures. You may still feel touch or pressure, and recovery is different for each person. We will not suggest local treatment if a hospital setting would be safer.

You stay awake while the treatment area is numbed. You should not feel pain, but may feel touch or pressure.
You are fully asleep and are not aware of the procedure.
Preparation
Preparation is usually simpler. The numbing injection may sting briefly similar to when you go to the dentist.
You normally need to stop eating and drinking beforehand and have an anaesthetic assessment.
Recovery
Recovery is usually quicker, and you can normally go home after a short rest.
You may feel sleepy for several hours. The effects can last about 24 hours, and another adult must take you home and stay with you.
Side Effects
Bruising, soreness or temporary numbness can occur. Serious reactions are very rare.
Possible effects include sickness, drowsiness, shivering and a sore throat. Rare complications can affect breathing, teeth or the heart.
When It Is Suitable
Often suitable for shorter, less complex procedures when the patient can stay comfortable and still.
May be better for longer or more complex surgery, or when being awake would not be safe or manageable.
Local anaesthetic avoids the added recovery and some of the risks of a general anaesthetic. However, it is not suitable for every patient or procedure. Your surgeon will explain the safest option for you.

No. Laser can reduce cutting and may mean less pain or a faster return to routine for some conditions. It is not right for everyone, and some people need another treatment.
Mr Cundall will explain any tests or urgent referrals you need. Heavy or non-stop bleeding, large clots, severe pain, fever or feeling very unwell needs urgent NHS help.
